What is the Paleo Diet?

This diet takes you back to the “Stone Age” - it is also called the caveman or hunter-gatherer diet

It claims that the modern diet (like processed foods, dairy products, grains, and legumes) is the cause of obesity and diseases

This diet does not restrict your intake of lean meats, fruits, and non-starchy vegetables

Weight Loss

  • High in fiber, potassium and antioxidants because of high fruit and vegetable intake
  • Short term: may improve blood sugar and lipid profiles

Not Nutritionally Balanced

  • Restrictive: discourages certain food groups (whole grains, legumes, dairy)
  • Micronutrient deficiencies (e.g. calcium)
  • Hard to follow, expensive
  • Over time, diet can increase cholesterol and triglycerides More studies needed
