Food Myths OR Fact?Let’s get factual
Following a gluten free diet will help you eat healthier
MYTH! Gluten is a protein found in certain grains. If you don’t have Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, gluten-free foods aren’t healthier and may lack essential nutrients. A gluten-free diet is also not a weight loss diet.
Fat or fat-free products are healthier choices
MYTH! Many of these products might contain added sugar or sodium to make up for the loss of flavor that happens when fat is removed or decreased. Always check the nutrition food label for sugar and sodium content!
Certain foods help you burn fat (grapefruit, cayenne pepper, vinegar)
MYTH! Unfortunately, no foods burn fat, make you lose fat more quickly or increase your metabolism enough to lose weight. Diets should not focus on SPECIFIC food items because they can be restrictive and cause a negative relationship with food. You also cannot sustain this type of diet.
Cut back on carbs to lose weight
MYTH! Carbohydrates are not inherently fattening. Weight gain occurs when you consume more calories than your body needs. It’s also important to consider the type of carbs you eat. Opt for whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, while limiting sugary snacks and refined carbs for the best results!
