What is a Detox Diet?

Meant to cleanse the body from toxins Claims to promote health, cause weight loss

Usually liquid-based, low-calorie, and low in nutrients

Result in short term weight loss
(mostly water weight at the beginning)

May include the use of additional vitamins, minerals, diuretics, laxatives or “cleansing foods”

Why You Don’t Need It!

Liver, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract detox your body everyday there is no need to buy products to do that

Not nutritionally adequate

Not recommended because little to no evidence about them

Contents of the detox products not fully known because not regulated properly - health risk!

If you want to feel rejuvenated and healthy, focus on eating more whole foods, drinking water and removing highly processed foods from your diet!

Remember, there is no magic solution to weight loss or cleansing your body!
